Diary entry: 29th January

This is getting mighty boring - up by 0.1kg to 37kg. I guess with the funny tummy taken into consideration that's ok, but I could do with a big gain now. All the talking in the world is not going to make me better and the weight needs to go up now big time.

As a mother of a d with AN who is now succesfully weight restored, I can tell you that you need to eat aproximately 3,000 calories to gain weight. In fact, your starving brain needs plenty of fats and proteins and complex carbs to start healing. Otherwise, you will continue spinning your wheels with no or very little success.

Well! Well done Hannah for understanding completely the Maudsley Model for the treatment of Anorexia, and adapting it so cleverly to the management of an adult. It's so much easier in the realm of a family with a sick daughter - this is far far more difficult. Don't let anyone tell you that this is not a completely reasonable way of managing a much more testing situation. Ground breaking work, Hannah. Take a bow.
Hear hear to that! I'm sick of reading negative comments about Lizzie and Hannah's efforts to conquer an incredibly difficult illness. As a mum whose daughter has been in and out of so-called specialist units with absolutely no sustained success I'm watching Lizzie's progress with baited breath. Show them Lizzie!
Well done on the weight gain, Lizzie! One small step at a time. Don't feel bad about the negative thoughts, yes the rant about Hannah and the bread did read as unreasonable, but that is the illness! It affects they way you feel and the way you interpret things. On some level we know we are being unreasonable at these times and it makes us dislike ourselves. Be kind to yourself, once your brain is getting all the fuel it needs those neurons will be a lot more smiley! Take care, Mary x
Lizzie, Hannah sounds like an absolute saint!!! Is she a life-long friend? If not, how on earth did you find her and how much does she charge for all that she's doing? I've looked at her website and she's obviously a multi talented person with huge drive, committment and energy. You (and your husband) are so lucky to have her! Would she manage any other sufferers? Hannah, you deserve some recognition for all that you're doing, even if its only from people like me. Your parents must be extremely proud.
Well done Lizzie - another gain! Even if it is a small one, the fact that you have managed to gain despite having an upset tum is evidence that you are getting there. Brilliant work and keep it up.
Also, to add my voice of support to Hannah as well as to you Lizzie, she is clearly the most wonderful friend.
Love
Huge
